I have purchased Spyware Doctor and Mcafee security suite which has virus protection, privacy screening, firewall, and spam killer. My computer was much slower afterwards. Do I need a firewall if I have it with Windows? Thanks, Rhonda

Hi, McAfee Suites need to be fully updated....were you able to get the online updates for all the features, not just antivirus part?

You should use only ONE antivirus program installed> are there any that maybe you forgot about, Norton perhaps, or Avast!, AVG, anything like that? Even if you could not uninstall one, it can cause conflcts.

Most of the good security suites like McAfee contain firewalls that are better than Microsoft's- MS advises that you turn off the Windows Firewall built into XP when you use a third party firewall:

This is an excerpt from Microsoft replies to questions:

"""Q: why XP Firewall is unable to prevent out bound traffic?
A: Windows Firewall was designed to prevent the spread of malicious software that relies on unsolicited incoming traffic. The filtering of outgoing traffic has much less security value than the filtering of incoming traffic.

    Joe_MSFT (Expert):
Q: If a have a 3rd party Firewall should I disable the Windows firewall or leave them both running?
A: The recommendation is that you disable Windows Firewall if a third-party firewall product is installed."""
