New user here! I have a Sandisk Cruzer Mini USB Flash Drive 128 MB, and my computer will not recognize it. I am on a network, have a CD-RW drive, DVD drive, Zip disk installed and my first network drive is F:\ Does anyone know if you can designate the drive letter to be used by a usb flash device? Or can I change the first letter of the network to a different letter? I am on Windows XP Pro.

    Thanks in advance!

    Rig.

No, the OS assigns the drive letter. It the drive recognized at all when you plug it in? Do any other USB devices work on your PC? If you are trying to plug into a front panel USB port try one on the back of the PC. Make sure USB is enabled in the BIOS also.

You'll need to get the drive recognised before you can assign a drive letter. Go into bios and in peripheral setup make sure usb is enabled then go into pci/plug and pray setup and check that plug and pray is enabled. Save settings and exit.:)

Thanks for your replies, I have two other USB devices, a digital camera and my mouse is plugged in to other USB devices. When I plug the Flash Drive in, I see a message come on my system tray, that says: "you can safely remove USB device now". But It is not recognized on explorer or from my computer.

    Thanks!

Does it work on other computers?

If you go to Control Panel -> Adminstartive Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management. You should see the drive and can change the drive letter. The drive letter should assigned automatically by Windows each time a drive is added automatically. Maybe you used Tweakui to block some drive letters.

When you plug your drive in it should not say its safe to unplug it. If you double click on that little grean and grey icon and STOP the drive and unplug it, then plug it in again does it work?

With the Cruzer Mini plugged in, I went into the computer management in XP and changed the drive letter to a different letter. That worked!! Thanks for all your help!
