I have a Dell laptop Inspiron 1525 with Vista. Can my usb port driver
be updated. The new galaxy pad I wanted to transfer photos to indicated
the dell's usb port driver's had to be updated for the transfer program to
    run.
I tried to get free updates online but only found ones that charged you.
Before I purchase, can anyone tell me if they will work on this ancient
laptop. I would also like to know if there would be one or multiple
    drivers needed.
    I have little tech knowledge.

    Thanks

What's the exact 7-character service tag/serial number on your Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop?
What's the exact Windows version on its Certificate-Of-Authenticity sticker?
From what I can determine, that model laptop came with a version of Windows XP or Windows Vista 32-bit.

You have THIS Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop.
It was purchased in June 2008 in the U.S.A. and came with Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit.
Because it's more than 10 years old, Dell has removed most of the information from its support site.
According to its specifications section, it has 4 USB2 ports.

Are you trying to transfer photos from that laptop into your Samsung Galaxy pad, or vice versa?
Can you provide a more detailed description of it so we try to locate its support site?

Yes I am trying to copy photos from my dell laptop
to the galaxy pad-A . I did download the needed transfer
program from samsung. The program enables the transfer
via a usb cable connection between the two. This is where
the program informs me that the dell's usb port driver needs
    updating to continue.
The other method suggested to me is via blue tooth. My
dell is capable but did not come with the required additional
    card or something.
I obviously need a new computer when finances allow.
I just thought I could update the usb port for now.

I guess for now I should use my son's newer desktop
and put the photos in that via a flash drive and run
the transfer program from that to the galaxy pad.
I just don't like the possibility of me screwing up
his computer. I am not that sure of my capability.
A little knowledge is definitely a dangerous thing
    in my case.
Thanks and let me know what you think.

It is a galaxy pad-a. It is actually a family members. I
am trying to get the family photos on it for her from
my laptop. I will find another way if need be. Just
thought I could get the Dell usb port updated without
a hassle. I tried Dell's out of warranty support number
but was on hold too long to make it worth my time.

You don't need any special program to transfer pictures, music, pdf files or anything else.
I own two Tab A tablets, a 10.1" and an 8". I move things back and forth between computers and tablets and have never installed a special program to do it.

Plug the tablet into your computer using the Tab's charging cable. Make sure the Tab is powered on or you might have a problem getting the computer to see it.
Is it recognized? You get a popup Allow access to Tablet Data. Tap allow on the tablet, not deny.

Open Windows Explorer and find the Family pictures.
Create a folder on your Vista desktop call Family pictures. Copy all the pictures you want to share with this person to the folder on your desktop.

Now in Windows Explorer find the Tablet (in the left pane). Expand it. You will see a Pictures folder. Open it. There might be other folders in there.

Copy the Family pictures folder into the right pane of the Pictures folder (that is on the tablet).
It might take awhile if there are a lot of pictures.
When the copying is finished, this is how you check. On the Home screen of the tablet, in the bottom row is a folder called Gallery. Tap on that. When it opens all the pictures that are on the tablet will be shown including the Family pictures you just copied over.

Thankyou for the info. I have saved it. My problem is still that my computer's usb port driver
needs updating before the galaxy can communicate with it.

I have an XP computer. XP is older than Vista. So if I can do this in XP, you should be okay to do it in Vista.

This computer is a Dell Optiplex 745 from about 2006.
It was pulled off the internet in 2014. I have never touched the drivers; that includes USB.

Test 1: plug in my Tab A 8" (2017 model) to the XP computer. To confuse the issue, there is a 2016, 2017 and 2018 model all called Galaxy Tab A!
I was able to copy a picture from the XP computer into the pictures folder on the android just using Windows Explorer.
I first copied the picture to the XP desktop so I could find it. Then I opened the Pictures folder in the Tablet menu (left pane Windows Explorer) and copied the picture from the XP desktop to the right pane of the pictures folder.

Test 2: plug in my Tab A 10.1" from 2016 and copied a different picture to this tablet.

    If you have questions, ask.
If I were you, I'd probably remove the transfer program you thought you needed to install. To be sure you remove everything, use Revo Uninstaller
    https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/revo_uninstaller.html
rather than just using add/remove programs.

The free version is fine because you are running a 32 bit version of Vista.
    https://www.revouninstaller.com/revo-uninstaller-free-download/
You could even use the portable version if you don't want to install it on your laptop.
