I have Photodraw installed on my Windows XP PC...i've started getting "Photodraw 2000 has encountered a problem and needs to close" error messages ALOT. Been using it for a whole year without any problems with XP.

The problem is...i can't find the discs...so i was wondering is there a way to load it from my C:/ drive onto a CD...so incase i have to uninstall/re-install it...i'll have a CD to use to load it back in there?

If there is a way, I'll also need to know if the key would happen to be stored somewhere in the PD files, before i delete the software...if i can load it to a disc, and i can't access the key off my pc somewhere...i guess i'm SOL????

Also is it possible to have waaaay too many .mix files on here and that there might be a maximum allowed to be stored and that is why i'm getting these error messages?
    Thanx in advance,
    ~Marie

    1. Click on Start -> Run
    2. Type "eventvwr.msc" without the quotes then hit enter.
    3. Review all errors and warnings in 'Application' and 'System'. (click on these in left pane)
    4. Look for any related to Photodraw (or other unexplained errors)
    5. Double click on the item to open "properties". Click on the Clipboard icon below the navigation arrows. (Looks like two sheets of paper text)
    6. Open notepad or other text editor, right click in notepad and select "paste".
    7. After pasteing, (if there are more errors) hit enter twice to double space, minimize notepad to tray.

Repeat the above procedure for each error entry, opening notepad which is now in the tray and paste, double space and return notepad to tray.

To post: at top of notepad select "Edit". In the Edit menu select "Select All", then in Edit select "Copy".

Come back to this thread, right click in the reply box and select "Paste".

Maybe there is a problem that can be fixed.

And to answer the question, it is not possible to copy Photodraw from the PC to a CD and then reinstall it. You have to have the original install CDs

I'll have to check my account and see if I'm set up to PM. Should be. Anyway in the meantime go ahead and post the errors, especially the ones pertaining to Photodraw.

Your main problem is that Photodraw 2000 is not compatible with XP.
As Windows updates come out the compatibility probably becomes less and less, to the point it will not work?
Check the link out below."PhotoDraw 2000 version 1.0 is not completely compatible with Windows XP"

If its version 1.0. Was that mentioned and I missed it? I have PD2000 v.2.0 and it seems to work fine straight through to the killbits update last month so that may or may not be the problem depending on which version is in use.

Storing/saving files in the .mix format is a problem though since it went out with the dodo bird. Use .tif or .bmp instead or you could end up not being able to open those files with anything else.

These were all bunched together/right in a row so i won't copy/paste anymore.
But if you guys need to see more...i'd be happy to do so.

That would totally make sense as to why it worked all along, then all of a sudden start messing up....I don't like the answer, but it makes sense :( Thanx

Ya know, I'm really not sure which version i am running...like i said i can't find the CD  I'm assuming 2000....if i save items in .tif or .bmp will i still be able to go in and edit my work, like i can with the .mix file?
Another question: If i delete all the .mix files from my pc...will that help any?
Oh dear there are thousands

Last comment but not least...I have Photoshop/Adode Elements/Adobe Ultimate Collection/Paintshop Pro and have no idea how to use any of them...

These are probably dated back to '07, so if worse came to worse, i suppose i could teach myself a different photoediting software. If i'm not mistaken...these are waaaay different from Photodraw...I've been using PD sooo long, i don't think my brain can comprehend anything else (joys of aging)
Unless someone lives here in Missouri and can show me. :(

Kiwiguy was right, probably some update to Windows has broken PD 2000 1.0

Unfortunately no, you cannot go back in and edit the layers or elements of a .bmp like you can with a .mix file but on the other hand, no other program handles and can edit .mix files so you risk the loss and inability to edit any .mix files in situations like the current one. Also since you already have Photshop and Paint Shop Pro, which are more replete layer and element programs, you really should be using one of them for that type of work, difficult though the learning curve may be.

Deleting the .mix files would have no effect since it seems clear that its the application that is incompatible and not the number of files or any such secondary symptom.

I can think of a way or two to get PD2000 1.0 working again involving virtualization but I'm not about to start trying to explain that process here. I think the simpler method when just one program is involved would be to get PD2000 2.0 which should still be compatible with the .mix files and compatible with XP, and start converting at least the .mix files that don't need to be edited on a layer or element basis over to a more current format.
