I have a dead HP Pavilion Ze4200, but I pulled the HDD and it seems to work fine.
I was wondering if I could pop it into another (newer) Pavilion and have it work fine.

    Anyone know about doing this?

You could insert the hdd, but chances are most drivers won't work since the new pc will have newer parts that requiere newer sw. If it's the sound card, you could solve it, but if its something like the graphics card, you could be screwed.
However, you may try booting from a cd and doing a full reinstall.
Personally, I would just use the hdd as an external drive (with a usb box and an adapter) or use it as slave in a pc (with an adapter).
Also, since hdds are cheap, why would you get a new laptop with no disk, or exchange the original for an older one? (apart from "avoiding a restore", which probably wouldn't work, anyway)
In my experience, assembled laptops don't work fine.
