Can I use a USB wireless antenna in place of internal one

I have a Dell 5548 that I just repaired a broken hinge on. When the hinge broke, it also pulled the antenna wires out of the tiny connectors on the WLAN card. In attempting to get the wires back in the connectors, I have messed up the connectors that go to the card. At this point it looks like I need to purchase a new internal antenna with new wires and connectors. It would not be that expensive but it would involve having to dismantle the body and screen of the laptop to replace the antenna.....just more time and hassle than I want to deal with at the moment. Can I just purchase a wireless USB antenna and use that instead of replacing the wired one in the laptop? If that is an option, it would sure be a lot easier. Using that scenerio, the WLAN card would still be in the computer but just would not have an antenna connected to it. I would strictly be relying on a USB antenna. I hope my question makes sense.

No but you can purchase a USB wifi adapter to replace your wifi card.
