    Running XP Home,

    I activated the Guest account and can not logon with it.

    Does anyone have any ideas what may have happened to the default profile for the Guest account? Or how to make another one?

    Thanks for responding dai;

    But please reread my post.

    I know how to enable the guest account.

    It will not logon because the profile is missing!

    I also realize that it is best to disable the guest account. But
    I chose to enable it temporarily for my neices to use while they visited.

    They are gone, but I would like to know what happened to the
    profile and how I can fix it.

    ....Willy

    The problem is more widespread than originally thought.
    I can not even open another user account and login.

    Every attempt to login other than with my
    administrator account produces an error stating:
    Your profile can not be found, contact your administrator
    And I get returned to the Welcome/Login Page

    Below are the Hijack This Logs if that may help in diagnosing the problem.

    dai;

    If you don't mind, could you further elaborate.

    I ran sfc /scannow several times and all I see is a dialog box:

    Please wait while Windows verfies that all protected
    Windows files are intact and in their original versions

    The scan takes forever, but at the end nothing.
    No report or acknowledgement of any kind.

    I also tried it in safe Mode and recieved an
    error code 0x000006ba [RPC Server is unavailable]

    Thanks again;

    Resolved

    Thanks dai (y)

    I appreciate all of your help, explaining the sfc /scannow,
    providing the pertinent Microsoft links, but most of all:
    Sticking with me until the issue was resolved. (y)

    I believe the sfc /scannow repaired enough damaged files to
    allow me to open and log into another user account. Although
    the Guest account profile was still missing and the first couple of
    new user accounts I opened were corrupted [no desktop
    backround, unable to change or set themes, programs menu
    inaccessable] After making 6 accounts, rebooting and running
    sfc /scannow numerous times. I finally was able to get several
    new accounts that were not corrupted.

    Once I had a new account which was not corrupted I took the
    advice from a Microsoft article and copied that profile into the
    Guest account which repaired it.

    FWIW: Once repaired, I disabled the Guest account until
    temporarily needed again. May have been alot of trouble for
    something I rarely use, but it bothered me that it was broke. ;)

    Thanks again;
    ....Willy
