I have windows XP. I recently found out that my computer does not turn off when I click the "turn off" button. I end up using the off button on the tower to turn it off!! When I click "restart" button it restarts the computer. Is this a virus problem? or a hardware problem?

"try hitting the windows key and hitting u twice"
(Must be some new advanced function.) :p

Depending on how old your PC is, you might need to update your BIOS.
What kind of PC is it?

You mentioned that "recently" you found out that your PC will not turn off.
Did it turn off before at some time? If so, have you installed any new software
or make any other modifications to the system?

Hittting the windows key then pressing u twice is a quick way to shut down your computer.
I dont know if it will work in this case until Immanual tries it.

I found the reason for the shut down problem! It was "sonic cine player"! When I last updated the sonic software it was added to my start program. I removed it and that solved my problem.

Funny how that works...something that's supposed to make things work better (updates)
usually ends up making things worse.

    Congrats on finding an answer!

    :D

Glad you solved it. I thought it could be another program causing it.
