I got a brand new HP with Windows 7 and it will not connect to my network. It sees it and I have another laptop connected to it as well as a desktop hardwired to it. Like I said, this thing is brand new. Any suggestions?

the only thing that I see in that tutorial that I didn't do was upgrade the firmware? It won't connect at home, at work, nor at my friend's house.

Check the workgroup name. Right click computer and select properties. Go to the computer name section. THere should be a domain or workgroup name. You have to be a member of the same workgroup to access the other resources.

Can you successfully connect by ethernet?

Is your non-Windows firewall or security suite up-to-date and properly configured for the desired access?

I didn't install the Norton that came with it, I have another one to put on there.

So it would be the Norton Software that is not allowing me to get on the Internet?

Not neccesarily, I have never heard of it not allowing an outbound connection unless like Terry stated that the firewall software was not allowing it.

I will look at it when I get off of work and uninstall the Norton.

Completely uninstalled all Norton components and used the removal tool. I also turned the firewalls completely off and it still sees my router but will not connect.

Disable encryption and MAC Address filtering (or Access Control) on the router and try to connect. If successful you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect.

If unsuccessful please attach a screen shot of the Networks page of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector and show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

    Type the following command:

    IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I talked to HP support for over an hour last night and now I am sending it back. Thanks for your help though.
