My computer is not working as smoothly lately, so a friend of mine recommended that I post this log. So there is nothing that needs a fix?

There is no "malware" there.

Can you clarify what you mean by "not working smoothly"?

Does the problem occur both online and off? Does appear temporarily resolved after a reboot or if the system is shutdown and allowed to cool for a period?

Did the problem begin at a particular time? Were any changes made?

The problem does happen while I am online. SBC Yahoo is my internet explorer provider. When I upgraded to their latest version that's when things began to happen. First, I noticed a problem with my homepage (espn.com). As the page was loading the right hand scroll bar would appear, but once the page was fully downloaded the scroll to move up and down the page would disappear. I have also noticed sites would not download completely and there would be an X where an image should be. This never happened before the upgrade. Right after this happened I received a bunch of warnings that I had spyware on my computer and was directed to stopzilla to fix. I guess it worked, but I am clearly no expert. I have rebooted, but the system works slower than it did. Another thing it does now, is when I click on link to another site, the site comes up as a minimized window and will take 2-3 clicks to get it to maximize. It just feels like my system is infected eventhough I run the norton antivirus update and scan it once a week.

Does "refresh" cause the problematic pages or images to load properly?

You might want to test some of these issues by using an alternate browser such as Opera or Firefox -- to rule out IE specific problems.

Firewalls are always a wild card here, and it's possible ZoneAlarm could be a culprit. If the problems are persistent and cannot be resolved otherwise, I'd recommend uninstalling it and relying on the XP firewall (if it is disabled, enable it) for testing.

Also, have a look at the suggestions in this article concerning non displaying images:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q283807

Both firewalls and ad-blockers can cause some of those symptoms.

>> Stopzilla may actually be your problem here. It probably added a lot of entries to the "hosts" file which is slowing your browsing and page loading.

If you open the Misc Tools section in HijackThis and select "open Hosts File Manager" > Open in Notepad,

is there anything UNDER the line that references "local Host"?

You can upload a copy of the file here as a text file attachment if you like.

Leave ZoneAlarm alone for now.

Find your Hosts file (HijackThis tells you its location) and rename it ghosts

Disable StopZilla or uninstall it and test the internet issues.

I tried to change the name of the file from 'hosts' to 'ghosts' and it would not let me. The message was "the file was being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be open and try again." I did that and it still would not let me. Should I wait to remove stopzilla?

You may need to disable or uninstall Stopzilla to rename the Hosts file.

But try this: run msconfig and select the Startup tab.

UNcheck the entry for Stopzilla there.

Before rebooting open Internet Options > Advanced and take the check out of "enable 3rd party browser extensions".

Reboot and then rename the Hosts file.

I uninstalled stopzilla and was able to rename the file to ghosts. I tried to make espn.com my homepage to see if those changes made a difference, but the scroll bar still disappears and some images still have the red x. Is there more I need to do?

Can you view Macromedia flash on the test page?

And do you get the Flash viewer on the ESPN page?

ZoneAlarm can also be blocking this in addition to IE settings.

Did you check Tools > Add-0ns to verify that it is present and enabled? See attachment

Yes, I can view the M.Flash on the test page.
The ESPN.com page works fine if I go to it from another site. It just has those problems when I make it my homepage.
I checked tools and it's present and enabled.
