Hello,

My system seems a little slow, can someone take a look at my HiJack log and advise on any problems that may be in there.

Thank You,
Ed

One thing stands out a mile and that is direct cd, If I remember correctly Roxio removed Direct CD from Easy CD 5 in the later updates for XP. So my first port of call would be the Roxio Update site

Then I would Restart Hijack this and put a check mark against the following

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

Click Fix Checked

Then go to Start | Run
Type in msconfig and click the Startup tab
Uncheck C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7Debug\mdm.exe

restart your computer, then log back onto the internet and reduce some of the services starting automatically, Visit Blackvipers XP configuration page to determine what you can and can't safely stop

I check Roxio Update Site I am using the latest version available: Updates Easy CD Creator 5.x.x Basic and Starter Kit to 5.3.5 dated May 13, 2003

I ran msconfig and click the Startup tab I did not see C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7Debug\mdm.exe listed.

Does everything else in the HiJack log look OK?

Thanks,
Ed

Your log is clean per se but I do think that mdm.exe is the cause of your slow down,

Mdm.exe (Machine Debug Manager) can be installed via Office 2000 Microsoft Script Editor, or it is a part of DCOM (yeh, I don't use that either).
It is loaded at boot time via

HKLM\..\RunServices
In addition to running every time you boot, it creates temporary files each time you boot ... but NEVER deletes them. (Go MS, like I need another 1,000 extra unused temporary files.)
source ttp://cpcug.org/user/clemenzi/technical/Parasites.htm#mdm.exe

CEXX is not overly happy with it either. http://www.cexx.org/rpcss.htm

I know from experience that it is an incredible memory hog
