I read that the cannon g6 does not use a usb port to upload pictures, what does it use? plus if anyone can give me their personal opinion about the camera I would appreciate it. And if anyone knows, would you recommend it over the nikon coolpix 8770? thanks

    Hello and welcome to tsg.
    Where did you read that?

    Have a look here: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canong6/page2.asp

Do you mean coolpix 8700 instead of 8770?

thank you for your reply, yes I am trying to find out the comparison between the g6 and the 8700. I have found prices on both of these cameras, both for 380.00 each. everybody else seems to be charging at least 200.00 more. But I would like to get either one of them and I am unsure which to get.

    thanks again

Are you going to be using it just for general use?
They are both very good cameras but the main advantages I see with the nikon are it has twice the zoom power (8 x optical) and twice the shutter speed.
If you are a very keen photographer you might concider going up to an slr, but the price difference is high.

If you had a bit of an interest wildlife the nikon would be more suitable.

Have a look at the sites Hewee suggested and do a google for a few more and compare the pictures and also look for user reviews.

Bear in mind I am only reading the spec's.

Compare here and then click the links to find out more.
    http://www.ritzcamera.com/webapp/wc...;c10101&compareProductIds=|13176857|13129503|

Also look at the accessories listed under each. Your see lots of added info that is nice to know. If you have one of there stores around I would go buy there and look at the cameras and talk to them and find out all you can about each one.

How you are going to use the camera. What types of other lens you may want to add to get later, types of memory, Microdrive. The nikon also has the "Lexar - 1 GB Professional Series 80X CompactFlash Memory Card w/WA" you can get.

I am sorry for the delay in replying to you all that wrote me with suggesting which camera to buy. I am leaning towards the cool pix because of the sutter spead is which is less than the g6. Anyway for those who were wondering where I found the price of both cameras for $379.99 each was an ad in pcphoto magizine from A&M PHOTO WORLD. PHONE # 1-800-598-0197, hope this is helpful (www.amphotoworld.com)

the ad didn't say anything about it being refurbished. But for the price it certanly makes me suspious. It does looks legit though, and being advertised in pcphoto mag month after month makes me think it is legit
