    Hi everyone!

I can not access certain websites. I try to go to Apple Store and the browser won't let me go there, instead I see strange symbols. Most of the time I get "DNS error, the website cannot be opened" or " ooops, the link is broken". However, I can access those websites (like apple store) from the other computer in my house. I've done some research on it and ran my computer in safe mode-everything worked perfectly. So now I suppose that the problem is with a third-party software that blocks those websites. Or there is a third party software installed on my system, which affects the host file (C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc)
I tried deleting the Host file, however it didn't help resolve the issue.

So I think that the problem is not in my router/modem, antivirus/ firewall (I tried to suspend them also-didn't help), but in some settings.

    I use Windows XP 32-bit.
P.S. I experience this problem on Safari, MFirefox, Chrome, IE8.

    Thanks.

If its ok in safe mode, actually try uninstalling the av and firewall and reinstalling them ( checking in the middle to see if the issue resolves) just suspending them might not be enough if they are operating improperly

You can fix those with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and then post a HijackThis 2.00.2 Log here and we'll see if anything pops up.

So I fixed those reg keys. It didn't help me. Then I uninstalled Outpost Firewall as Dezaras suggested, checked Apple Store-and it worked! I'm not getting those strange symbols anymore. However, when I tried to open techguy forums, I saw "oops, this link appears to be broken".

    Here's a screenshot.

    JohnWill, ok.

And I am not sure about the following fact but I think that I have to mention it. This probably happens when someone watches online TV on the other computer.

Are you saying that it's normal when the other computer is turned off? If so, that's a VERY significant clue! Please provide further details.

Well, I am not sure about that. But it seems like it.
It's pretty normal when no one watches TV on the other computer.

It is strange because my ISP is Comcast (10 Mbps).

I just want to mention that I moved to this place recently and I never had this kind of problem at the old place. In addition, my modem&router (motorola&belkin) are different from those at the old place(motorola&d-link).

Do you have the problem when you connect directly to the modem and bypass the router?

    Hi!

Can't play online video on another computer while connected to the modem ;)

So, what I did was that I checked my ping/up and down speed on speedtest.net and pingtest.net

    Here's what I got:

    __ping_____download speed___upload speed___connection type

    _19 ms______~1 Mbps______~2.5 Mbps_____directly to the modem
    _18 ms______~1 Mbps______~2.5 Mbps_____wired, through the touter
    _20 ms______~10 Mbps_____~2.5 Mbps_____wireless(router)

Hope this means anything. The other computer was turned off during the testings.

And I've noticed previously that results don't change a lot if I turn on TV on the other computer.

I'm having trouble believing that going wireless increases your download speed 10x, that makes no sense.

Let's see this from the wired connection, then again for the wireless connection.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

    IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
