Hello everyone,

I'm having some trouble booting Windows Vista. The computer I'm working on is a Dell Studio 17. It has an Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.5GHz, 4GB of RAM, and Windows Vista 64-bit.

For a while now, it's had a hard drive problem. I've gotten error 0F00:0244 once in the past which says that the HDD is dying or is dead. Recently it shut itself off after running out of battery, and when I tried to restart it, it did the standard "windows has shut down incorrectly" tests, and afterward, it began loading Windows normally, except it stayed in pretty much an infinite loop, never getting to the user name screen. I ran multiple diagnostic tools and again, the only error code I got back was 0F00:0244. I tried loading "last known good configuration" to no avail, and also tried starting in safe mode. It loaded a couple dozen drivers, then stopped, saying "please wait" at the bottom. it eventually restarted and got stuck in the infinite boot loop.

At this point, I think the HDD is gone for good, but I was wondering if anyone had any last-resort ideas?

Thanks for your help.

-Michael
