hello, i have a problem connecting to any microsoft web sites, all i get is this

Firefox can't find the server at www.microsoft.com.

    * Check the address for typing errors such as
    ww.example.com instead of
    www.example.com

    * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.

    * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

retry does nothing. i have seen many people with this problem on various forums but they all seem to be ancient posts, and to be quite frank the solutions provided are double dutch to me.
this problem started when i installed windows xp from a disc someone gave me (genuine disc), i only have sp2 bcs i cant get the sp3 as i cant go to microsoft, i cant iinstall certain drivers bcs i need to go to or download from microsoft . i cannot find this site on internet explorer or firefox both of which are the latest ed. i have tried some of the suggestions ive found online such as disabling firewalls, running av ware, ermmm loads of stuff which i cant even remeber now beacause its nearly midnight, my brain is melting trying to fix this prob and i'm about to poke myself in the eye with some scissors arghhh lol

any suggestions are greatly appreciated from me and my eye x

I understand that the most common reason for this happening is malware, so I've asked for it to be looked at by the trained malware response team. To ensure that things move as quickly and smoothly as possible please follow the instructions in this sticky to get them the information that they need.

Going to bed can help as well. We're all human, and no one's going to begrudge you a few hours delay if it means that you're functional enough to be a useful partner in sorting out the computer.
