I searched the forum database, but could not find a post with similar issue.
I have 3 laptops at home, all running Windows XP and using wireless. I can connect Laptop1 to the internet fine. But I cannot connect Laptops 2 & 3 to the internet until I disconnect Laptop1 from the wireless router/internet. It is like Laptop1 is putting some kind of block on the other laptops.
I can then connect Laptop1 fine to the internet after Laptops 2 & 3 are connected.
So every time I need to access internet from Laptops 2 & 3, I first have to disconnect Laptop 1.
Same behavior with my iPhone and BlackBerry as well. Can connect these devices to internet via WiFi only if Laptop1 is first disconnected.
It has been really frustrating. Would appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance.

Please show for Laptop1 and one of the other laptops ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I don't know why you are seeing those symptoms, but it probably has something to do with your network configuration. Somehow you have at least two Dhcp servers, which is one too many, on your network.

Laptop1: DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.235.1

Laptop2 (When unable to connect when Laptop1 is connected): DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.232.254 (and no Default Gateway is assigned)

Laptop2 (When able to connect when Laptop1 is not connected): DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.235.1

make and model of all modems and routers you have would help here - as Terry says looks like you have a modem - which is probably a combined modem/router connected to a another router is that the case , full details of equipment you have connected to the telephone or cable connection would help here

I have a Linksys RV042 that I use as a VPN router (DHCP is enabled on this) and a Linksys WRT54GL Wireless Router (DHCP is disabled on this).
I use WireSpeed Verizon DSL modem.
I am not sure where the IP address, 192.168.232.254 is coming from. My IP address range is defined as 192.168.235.110 to 192.168.235.159 in both the routers.
Thanks.

i would switch everything OFF - and try again and if still not resolved - reset and reconfigure all the routers

looks like you have set up correctly in principle - but something is not right to get those IP address - restarting my find the error
