Cannot connect to Wireless when secured

Hi,

I have issues when I try to secure my wireless internet connection and then connect to it. I can connect only when the connection is unsecured. When I secure it, WEP, WPA, WPA2 whatever I am unable to connect. Other computers in my household however ARE able to connect when it is secured.

So I know it's not the router. I thought it was my wireless adapter on my laptop so I then purchased a new adapter and still had the same issue. So im concluding it has something to do with some IP setting/configuration what have you on my current machine? My current wireless adapter is INTEL 3945ABG and I've updated it to its most recent drivers. I am running Windows Vista.

I have done ipconfig /renew /reset /flushdns all those commands and still have the issue.

Below is a snippit of my ipconfig info:

have you checked you have the exact password- i have tripped up here a few times with capital i and lower case L Il or missing 2 letters together

power off the router and try again

have a look and see if you have the latest wireless driver from the laptop manufacturer and for the new device

what happens when you try wep
do you connect to the router and not get internet access

also try removing all the wireless profiles

------------------------------------------------------------------------

How to remove Wireless Profiles - for Vista and Windows 7
http://mgmcc.forumotion.net/networking-tutorials-f17/removing-an-existing-wireless-profile-t109.htm
- Vista/Windows7:
- delete the wireless profiles
Start> control Panel> classic view> network and sharing center> manage wireless networks

Delete the profiles
you will then have to enter the wireless security key for any networks you connect to - so make sure you know the correct password , and not using an incorrect password at all
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, im pretty sure its not an isue with the password because other computers on my network can detect the secured network and type the password in successfully.

I have the latest wireless driver for the adapter (so it says).. However, from my laptop manufacturer? Not quite sure.

Another thing I should add..

When I secure it to say WEP. In my wireless network connection the old connection which was unsecured turns into "The setting on this computer do not work with this network" or something to that ends. and the network shows up with a big [X].

I will try removing all wireless profiles.

oh thats a shame

what happens when using secure - does it connect and get an ip - but no internet or not connect

can we see an ipconfig /all and ping tests
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste
------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ping Tests
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

Start> Run {search bar in Vista/W7}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

Type the following command
Ping {plus the number thats shown against the default gateway shown in above ipconfig /all}
Post back the results
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Type the following command
Ping google.com
Post back the results
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Type the following command
Ping 209.183.226.152
post back results
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste
For your information only
these tests will check various stages of the connection, the first ping test, ping default gateway checks to see if you still have a connection to the router the next two
Ping google.com & Ping 209.183.226.152 tests the connection to internet , one by name and one by number which checks that the dns is working

I already posted my ipconfig /all.

I can connect to secure wireless connections it is just when I secure MY connection which is usually UNSECURED.. I get problems.. I am currently connected to MY connection.. Unsecured.

Alrite, so I just secured the connection using WPA2 and now I can connect to it. One thing i did differently this time however was changed the name of the wireless connection from dlink to dlink44.. Could that have been the issue?

I know my neighbors also had an unsecured dlink and at times and I would connect to that. This past week I actually connected to their router thinking it was mine and changed the name/pass. It's gone now I think THEY secured theirs also.

So far so good.

Here is the ipconfig /all being connected to the secured wireless btw.
