In the pop down window with previously viewed URLs, one entry refuses to be deleted...ever!! Yes I know how to go to tools, internet options, general, and clear history. To no avail, this one (a nasty one that I don't ever think we went to) refuses to be deleted. Question is, where is this information stored on the computer and is there an override that can be employed to delete this entry? If this is a virus, it is not being picked up by Kaspersky or Panda.

I would say the problem just may be not a virus, so to speak, but adware-type malware. Antivirus scans may not pick up what might be running on your computer.

To have someone check for that, do the following:

    • Save Hijackthis.exe to your desktop.
    • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
    • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
    • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
    • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
    • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
    • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
    • At the top of the Notepad HJT log screen, hit EDIT then SELECT ALL then click EDIT and then click COPY, doing that copies the text to the clipboard, you won't see it yet....
    • Open a TechSupportGuy forum Reply window for this thread, to have ready to paste the Hijackthis log into. Click once to place the typing cursor in the reply window.
    • At the top of your TSG/browser window, hit EDIT then PASTE
    • You should see your copied Hijackthis log appear in the reply space....then, submit the reply
    • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Some help here: To understand exactly what you need to do, read up a bit on the two types of URLs that can be the problem:

Here is the freeware program EditURLs: http://aandrc.com/editurls/retrieve.htm

This freebie might help, but it may not remove any nasties that have gotten into your computer!
Advise that you also post a Hijackthis log.
