I have an uninstalled program (XTools 2.0, a GIS utility) that I cannot remove from the Windows XP (Pro SP2) Add Remove Programs list. I have tried the following methods and none have worked.

    1. CCleaner --> Tools --> Delete Entry. Says it can't find the installer.
    2. Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. I select XTools and press the Remove button but it doesn't actually remove it.
    3. Delete Add Or Remove Programs List Entires 7.0 software utility. It doesn't even have XTools in the list so I can try to remove it.
    4. Manually remove program from the Add Remove Programs list via the registry as described by Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/247501) and several other sites. I can't find XTools in that part of the registry so the info must be somewhere else.

This is more an annoyance than anything else but it now it's a matter of principle! Ok, maybe obsession but does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Aaron

    * Click here to download HJTsetup.exe.
    Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.

Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click Open the Misc Tools section.
Click Open Uninstall Manager > Save list and save the log to your Desktop.
A list of programs will open in Notepad. Post the contents of this log.

To remove the entry, run regedit.

    Navigate to:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Find the entry and delete it.

    Thanks John.
I'm surprised to not see it listed in HJT.

"ArcGIS Desktop" is probably the one. This is a great program if you're into maps and surveying.

FYI, XTools is an extension that works within ArcGIS Desktop but XTools has its own entry in the Add Remove Programs list. I also noticed that it wasn't listed in the HijackThis log. So how can XTools be in the Add Remove Programs list but not in the HijackThis log?
