I get to the point when I am downloading where I drop the file in my applications folder. Once I do that nothing happens. It creates a file, but when I click on it nothing pops up or opens. Everything is updated.

Are you downloading a executable file? Most MAC programs will be downloaded with a .dmg format.

Try downloading Chrome or Firefox to your desktop. Once there, you should be able to open it and then drag and drop the icon into your application folder. The program should self install.

Check to make sure you can install programs.
