Has anyone ever had a problem where they cant download any of the patches from microsoft.com.. everytime i try to download a patch it gives me the following message.. "Server not found..Firefox can't find the server at download.microsoft.com".. i tried on internet explorer and i got the same message.. I was able to download it from a different computer so i know that it should be working.. i just recently reformatted the hard drive so i don't know if that had anything to do with it... Is there anything else i need to post to help you guys out in trying to help me??

You say you've recently formatted the machine? Do you have an original XP disk?

Does the disk have Service Packs included?

    Which firewall do you have?

The entry I wanted to check for is indeed present.

    Can you access this page?

If so, run through the troubleshooter to see if the problem is rectified.

I thought there was something missing. You should have this entry in your log:

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: WgaLogon - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WgaLogon.dll

This relates to the Windows Genuine Advantage Notification tool which notifies you if your copy of Windows is not genuine. Without this, you won't be able to download the updates I don't think.

Please download MGADiag.exe to your desktop.

Double-click MGADiag.exe and click Continue in the bottom right of the window to run the tool.

Click the [Copy] button to copy the info to your clipboard.

Then come back here and paste the info in your next reply please.

Ok, just for a recap, you can access the Windows update site but cannot actually download the updates.

Have you been prompted to run the Windows Validation test "before" scanning for available updates? The HJT entry I posted above is missing from your log which suggests you haven't run the online Validation process. This is needed to download the updates.

Do you have trouble accessing any other "secure sites" ?
