I have a new desktop PC with Windows 7 Home Premium and a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop with W7 HP upgrade. Every time I try to get the 2 to talk to each other via a Homegroup, on the desktop, it tells me that it cannot find the laptop because it does not have IPv6 connectivity. The Dell tells me it has. I've looked into the WiFi router configuration and it appears that it may be that the router does not support IPv6. It's a Xavi 7968 (Spanish Telefonica) router and, so far, I cannot find a way to update it. I just want to connect both PCs and have them inter-connected (what I understand by 'networked'). Can you help me, please?

Please post this for each of the two computers.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

Note that there is a space before the -n or the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the - or / in the following commands.

    NBTSTAT -n

    IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

PC-1 appears not to have IPv6 enabled, that could be an issue.

    Enable IPv6:

    1. Hold the Windows key and type R, enter "ncpa.cpl" (without the quotes) and press Enter
    2. Right click on each network connection and select "Properties"
    3. Place a checkmark from the box next to "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
    4. Click OK to exit the dialog

NOTE: You should do this for each network connection.

Thanks JohnWill. It was when I was pasting the 2 lists as you said that I noticed that neither PC has IPv6 connectivity. Hence I'm assuming that my router does not support it. It's a Xavi 7968 Spanish one and It will not update it's firmware?

You can network them without using homegroups. I have IPv6 disabled on my Windows 7 machines, they network fine with all versions of Windows and Linux.
