I can ping the outside world with a url number, but when I use the name I cannot network. A friend said it might be the DNS settings but I've tried those - any ideas????

I'm at home with a cable modem. The modem is working fine because I know I can ping - but only uising the numbers for a web site.

    thanks in advance!

sorry about that - I am using win98 and I am trying to get on the net. I can ping using a number such as 4.2.2.2 but when I try and ping using www.yahoo.com or ay other NAME it will not work - I have used up may hours the last week trying to find a solution. My TCP/IP is binded to the network card as usual.

    have you tried to

    click start
    then click run
type in winipcfg in the box
    click ok
in the drop down box select your net card
    click release
    click renew
    then apply and ok
