You don't say what you've tried to open it with.

Notepad is the common program/app that is used to open text files.

Where did you get the file? When it's like that, the issue is because it's not the right format.

Does the txt file contain any personal information if we were to be able to open it properly? I ask because if not perhaps you could upload it here so we can take a look as that might help with the issue.

Otherwise, can you post a screenshot of what you see (or part of it) when you open the file with Notepad? Make sure it includes the toolbar menu at the top.

Is it a text file you created or did you receive it from someone else?

Can you open other .txt files?

The file contains pics of my young Granddaughters so obviously I don't want to share on the web.

My daughter sent the pictures to me in txt form but as I say I cannot/do not have anyway of opening it

I cannot open any txt files that I've been sent in the past

    Thanks for your help :)

It's been my understanding Images couldn't be included in a .txt file.

A .txt file has to be converted into a .rtf or .doc first, then the image included.

Can you write a short message in notepad, save it, then open it?

I don't think it's possible, certainly not reasonable, to include photos in text files. Are you sure that the file is not a .zip or some other compressed folder of photos? Have you asked your daughter how she created the file?

I just tried to copy/paste and drag a photo to a text file in Notepad and it just can't be done. You end up with a bunch of gibberish (not computer code).

I believe the problem is with the way your daughter is creating/sending the files to you.

I created a test document and am uploading it here as an attachment.

Please download it and let me know if you can open it with Notepad.

Also, you could try something else. Rename the file to add a 1 or B or something so it's a duplicate of the original. Then try renaming it again but this time change the .txt file extension to .jpg and see if it becomes a photo. I just did this with a picture I have that I obtained from the Internet and it worked.

I think your problem would be solved by asking your daughter to resend you those photos in a proper image format, such as .jpg and open them in an image viewer.
