Cannot open the scanner

    Within the last week my scanner function on my imagepass mf6540 stopped working. i have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers and mftoolbox. i checked and it does work on my laptop but not my desktop. i did search this site and nothing is working. any help is appreciated.

    both machines are windows 7 with all the current updates.

    Uninstall all drivers/software related to the scanner, reboot, and perform a fresh install from disc or get the latest software/drivers from the manufacturers website.

    Aside from that, what exact error are you seeing?

    cannot open the scanner. the scanner is not active or in use by another application.

    it is not is use. i can print to it just fine. i can scan using windows scan/fax. done all of what you suggest several times.

    Have you tried a restore to a date prior to this happening?

    no i have not, not 100% sure how to but will look into it. cannot remember when last week it worked.

    That would be the first thing I would try; pick a date that you are sure is prior to when it occurred.
