My sister's computer, a Windows 8 computer, recently updated. After that, .pdf files are no longer printing. Everything else on the computer will print, just not .pdf files. She has a home business, so deals with a lot of .pdf files that need to be printed, as you can imagine. The files open just fine. The print dialog box comes up as usual, but upon clicking the print icon (or using File>Print), NOTHING happens. There is not even anything in the printer queue.

    To remedy this, we've tried:

    1. Rebooting computer (numerous times)
    2. Uninstalling and re-installing the lastest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (numerous times)
    3. Printing as an image
    4. Making sure Adobe Acrobat Reader is the default for these file types
    5. Redownloaded the file to make sure it was not corrupted
    6. Saved the file as a different file name
    7. Made sure the printer is the default printer
    8. Made sure the computer has latest updates

Anyone have any insights to this issue? This computer was printing .pdf files just fine as of this morning....then suddenly just stopped printing them....it's as if it does not know the final "print" button has been clicked on.

I've come across this: https://supportdownloads.adobe.com/detail.jsp?ftpID=1500, but I'm not sure if this is necessary or a good idea?

We've been working on this all day and have run out of ideas.

Does she have 8.0 or 8.1?
If 8.0, upgrade her to 8.1 and give that a try.

At your link above I do not see 8.0 or 8.1 listed.

    She has 8.1

The link above has a "universal" driver for adobe printers for Windows.

Have you tried uninstalling the update to see if that restores the printer function?

The link does say universal but only for the supported OSs mentioned and Windows 8.1 is not among them. At least that's the way I interpret it.

It will only work on printers that use PostScript (whatever that is). Have you checked if the printer uses that?

What is the make and model of the printer?

She would be not capable of uninstalling the updates. It had several updates, as she had to "restart and apply updates" about four times. If it makes any difference, my husband's business laptop is Windows 8.1 also and it's fully updated and it prints from .pdf files just fine.

Have you tried Crtl + P to print?

I doubt it will work if the other commands don't but I guess it's worth a try.

Another option would be to try a system restore to just before those updates were installed and it was working properly. If that works she could then install the updates one by one to see if there is one in particular that is causing a conflict with the printer.

Just to clarify, this is to make it actually print....not just to bring up the dialog box, correct? Because, like I said, we can always bring up the dialog box, just nothing happens when we click the "print" button on the dialog box. When we press CTRL+P, the dialog box comes up like normal, but if we press those keys a second time, nothing happens, just like everything else we've tried.

We'll try a system restore some time today, but it may be later......she was just hoping to avoid that.

Yeah, it was a long shot. I was hoping if called up from a different source it might work.

It's not a big deal and can be undone. Just be sure not to do it while in safe mode.

It won't effect any of her business files or programs or personal files, correct?
