Cannot Send email - message stuck in outbox

    I'm trying to help a friend who cannot send email. Outlook Express, Vista.

    Receiving email works fine. I checked all server settings and everything seems correct.

    I can delete the Outbox folder but I cannot find the outbox.dbx file. After deleting the folder, there is still one message stuck in the outbox. I cannot delete it or move in OE. I have made sure that I can view hidden and system files, but I cannot find the .dbx file. I've located the Store In folder, but cannot find and .dbx there either.

    Does Vista call it something other than .dbx?

    I have no idea how your friend got Outlook Express on Vista, nor where the files may be hiding.

    If, in fact, it's really Windows Mail the files (don't know what they are called) are probably in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\

    You're right, it is Windows Mail. I do not use Vista, so I am only familiar with Outlook express.

    There are no .dbx files to be found. I have found the Mail folders under
    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\
    but there are no .dbx files. I am familiar with rebuilding OE .dbx files, but this is my first experience with Vista.

    Hi DeaconBlues,

    Windows Mail doesn't store messages in database files like OE so you won't find DBX's.
    Messages are stored as individual .eml or .email files.
    Deleting the .eml from the Store that's stuck in the Outbox might clear it. I don't have much experience with Windows Mail, so I don't know if that will work, but it won't hurt to give it a try.

    this happened to me - you have to click on file menu and select work off line. Open the offending message and delete all the date. delete information in to/from/cc/ subject and all content. Close the email and choose save changes - then delete it. GONE!! dont forget to click on file and click work online.
