I have a program files directory on my e:\ that I use to install most of my applicaitons to as it is much larger than my c:\ partition.

However I cannot write or delete anything from this folder now, and I cannot open an application I have been using for ages either, and this is how I noticed it. I have scanned my machine using Panda Titanium 2007, Adaware and AVG anti spyware, and nothing suspect shows up but I presume it is something malicious.

Has anyone got any ideas? It is only this directory that is giving me trouble and today is the first time this has shown up. I am logged in as the same profile I always use.

Win 2000 machine.

Here is the hijackthis log...... Any help appreciated.

Anyone please? I can't open most of the applicaitons I have installed to that directory. It was ok a couple of days ago, and I haven't noticed anything else changing.

What happens why you try to open applications installed there?
Do you get an error message?
Is it the same error for all applications?
How much free space is on the E:\ drive/partition?

As a side note, there's really no benefit to installing applications to any drive or partition other than C:\. If your Windows installation is corrupted or needs to be reinstalled, most of those applications would need to be reinstalled as well since they put files in system directories and create registry keys. Something to think about when you rebuild your system.

Thanks for the reply. There is 13GB out of 60GB used on e:\

As for the applications that do not open, One flashed for a microsecond and doesn't start, another database one tells me "ODBC Microsoft Access Driver Login Failed". Another starts but the automatic software upgrade keeps looping and never installs so I can't start it.

Some applications do open fine from there actually, but it seems ones that need to alter data or upgrade automatically (such as online poker sites) do not work properly.
