hi all, hope you can help me...

the motherboard in my emachine was fried. i removed my maxtor hard drive and put it in another computer as the master drive but it would not boot. then i put it it as a secondary drive and it was recognized the drive but i cannot access the files in documents and settings for my user name because it is password protected. it says access is denied. i know the password but there is no option to give the computer the password.

how can i access those files now? or is there a way to make the drive boot as a master?

please help i have lots of pictures and music on this drive!

thanks : )

You will probably have to reinstall Windows on the drive to boot with it.

XP does not "password protect" individual files and folders -- but the SID (Security Identifier) for those files and folders is different and that could be why you are getting "access denied"

Take posession of them:

or:

Permissions (using Calcs)

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/cacls.mspx?mfr=true

For example:

cacls "driveletter:\MYFolder\" /T /E /G username:F
