    Hi
After months of working well my computer has stopped accessing the Web. When I start up IE6 it appears to find a site but then I get a "cant find server or DNS error"
Can't connect to the mail server or news server either.
Have my old comp still functioning so hooked it to modem--I have ADSL connection through a modem--no router involved-the old box connects just fine!!! so no modem or cable problem.
When I run winipcfg (Windows Me OS) it does not show an IP address---says Media disconnected.
I have checked all network settings and confirmed them with ISP--they are the same as the old box that works.
Could this be a driver problem??
On the advice of a friend I have uninstalled the antivirus client I have been running--it was Freedom--purchased from the ISP. No change after uninstalling.
Not sure what the next step should be.
    Thanks

    Download Hijackthis.
Create a folder on your hard drive and save it there.
Unzip the file and extract it to the folder you have created.
Scan your machine, then click on Save Log.

Post a copy back here and someone will be happy to review it.

Don't make any changes until instructed to do so.

Are you sure the network card is working. You might try swapping with a known working one.

If you think it may be a spyware problem, you might as well do a cleanup before posting the hijack log.

    Spybot Search and Destroy:
    http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsda

    SpySweeper:
    http://www.webroot.com/wb/products/spysweeper/index.php
This will also protect your home page from being hijacked.

    Ad-Aware:
    http://www.lavasoft.de/

With any of the above three programs, just like with Anti-Virus software, should have the latest updates installed before doing a scan.

    CWShredder:
    http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/CWShredder.exe

    KazaaBeGone
    http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/kazaabegone.zip

Programs that can help prevent getting infected:

    Spyware Blaster

    Spyware Guard
