Computer is Modified Dell PowerEdgeSC430,with XP SP3,Win7 on another hard drive, Pentium Dual Core 945 @ 3.4 Ghz, 4Gb memory,320GB hard drive,500GB hard drive, Dell RadeonHD6350 vid card
I changed some settings a while back recommended on a web site because of the ransom ware attacks a couple of months ago and now I can't print to my network printer on my win 7 machine. I have a wired router connections to both machines. I should have written it down. It sees the printer but it says I don't have permission.

First thing you could try is running the printing application as an administrator.
I suggest reinstalling the printer drivers (or updating them). Are you using a homegroup or a 3rd party network printing application? Can You do the roll back to the previous configuration or uninstall the updates?
Also I suggest using antiviruses that are specialised for ransomware prevention.

On the Dell I have two hard drives, one with XP SP3 and Win 7 on the other. I switch the cables to boot on each one. The windows 7 one doesn't have a problem, only the XP.I have Avast free , and Malware bytes free on the dell. I reinstalled the latest printer (Cannon MG2520) drivers. I think it has got to be the security settings I changed a while back that were recommended. I tried looking at the network and it sees the front computer but no files or folders. I do have printer sharing turned on both machines.

    first of all:
1 . Check if you can ping the System to which the printer is connected

2 . Check the firewall settings

3 . Check anti-virus if it has blocked the ip address of the pc which you are trying to connect

    4. Try disabling firewall in both the system

5 . Try restarting the PC and the printer

    6 . Disable anti-virus

7 . Check if network and sharing is enabled

If all these are applied and it's not working

    try this:

1- From MMC snap-in add Printer Management

    2-Custom Filter

    3-All Drivers

    4-Delete your printer drivers

5- Reboot computer in Safe Mode

    6- C:\Window\System32\Spool\Drivers\ (delete everything)

7-Reboot computer in normal and reinstall printer driver

Thanks for your reply, I do have network and sharing is enabled on the XP machine, I will check the Win 7 machine, maybe the windows update changed something. I will try your suggestions when I get a chance.
