Have you turned on DNLA in win 10

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for “Media Streaming Options” and click the result to open Control Panel on that section.
  3. Click the Turn on media streaming button to enable DLNA on Windows 10. Turn on media streaming on Windows 10.
  4. Click OK to apply the settings and complete the task.

I just turned DLNA and Media Streaming options on as per your post.
The PC still does not see the TV when I try to connect.

I did check(google) whether DLNA was needed for casting/projecting.
DLNA Media Streaming and Mirroring allows you to Stream your local Media content such as HD Videos, Audio files and Images on to DLNA enabled Smart TVs. ... For Miracast based Screen mirroring please make sure That your TV or Wireless Display device is enabled with Miracast Technology.
Seems it's really just for music, videos and audio [media streaming]

I have options on TV to do streaming already--that's not what I want.

At this point my guess is a setting(s) in the laptop or TV that is preventing things.
Thanks for responding.

It was just another option to check to make sure everything is visible to everything.
What about the connection as per post #22

Let's do the basic
On your tv go to settings network and look for the ip address it will be something like 192.168.0.5
or 10.0.0.5.
On laptop open cmd prompt and type in ping and the ip address and press enter
Example ping 192.168.0.5 (Press enter key)
You should get a reply
I know this is basic but we have to make sure laptop sees tv

Yes I can ping the TV 192.168.2.16 and get a response.
The 2nd png shows the TV connected to wifi (taken from the router/modem admin screen)
