Can't connect!!!

Hello, please can you help me?
I have a laptop downstairs and pc upstairs i want to be able to use them both so i had a wireless card put in my pc it worked at first then it just stopped.
i did have macafee total protection on both with the wireless protector my laptop wouldn't connect so i disabled the wireless bit and it connected. I tried the same with te laptop but still it wouldn't connect. I tried entering the ip addy and default gateway manualy (tht i got from my laptop)after witch is said i was connected but im not. its sending packets but not recieving any please help me its doing my hea in!!!!:mad:

Please supply the following info.

The name of your ISP and country of residence.
Make/model of the broadband modem. If dial-up, please specify.
Make/model of the router (if any).
Connection type, wired, wireless.
Make/model of network card or wireless adapter.
Make/model of your computer (motherboard if home-built).
Version and patch level of Windows, i.e. XP-Home SP2.
