I'm trying to erase my word documents so I can give my notebook to my nephew.

When I try to erase some of the folders I get message like the following " cannot find HEREST`Doc. Cannot find the specified file" , (That is an example, the specific document varies with the folder I try to erase)

I simply want to erase all my word documents which are in various folders. What can I do?

Also is there a way I can permenently erase the documents so they cannot be recopvered as some refer to confidential business matters.

I'd prefer to leave the programs on the notebook and not reformat the whole computer if possible.

Try deleting in safemode. If no go you may have to assign permissions to files to allow to delete.

If you are trying to delete folders created by Windows as part of your profile (in the Documents and Settings area) then be careful.

Delete the files but you will have to leave the folders if they were the Administrator login ones. Even changing the login name will not remove the actual folders, if part of the profile default ones.
