I was wondering if someone can help me....whenever I go to run my scan disc or defrag it restarts 10 times and just keeps doing that...it tells me I have a program running but I turn everything off even the modem and still I can't run theses 2 programs. Any ideas for me to try

Reboot and start tapping the F8 key when windows starts to load. When offered, select Safe Mode and then run the programs in safe mode and you should get no interference. Good luck and run those once or twice per month. Good luck. (y)

In checking for a running program you can go to Start> run> type "msinfo32" (without the quotes)> click on the Plus sign in front of "software environment"> then click on running tasks in the left window pane and you'll see everything running in the right hand pane.

    P.S. Welcome to TSG!!!!

Click the link below and read the article, "Hard Drive Maintenance".

There have been some arguments about running Scandisk in "Automatically Fix Errors" mode, so you might consider leaving it unchecked - although I've never had a problem with running it in that mode.

What did you do to allow you to run Scandisk and Disk Defragmenter?
