When trying to open a new Excel doc. from the folder I saved it to, I get a window saying Windows can't find the file, followed by the complete file name, which is correct. I can send it as a attachment in an email, and I can open it while in Excel. But I can't get to it by opening it up from the folder I saved it in. Anybody have any ideas?

What happens if you open Windows Explorer, go to the correct subdirectory, and double-click on the file name? Does it open? Could you have inadvertently typed some non-printable characters in the file name, like Ctrl-B or something like that? Do you see the file in the window when, from Excel, you click FILE > OPEN > Select the correct directory? I guess what I am saying is how are you trying to open it? If you are trying to open it from the most recently used entries if the FILE menu, it may not actually be in that subdirectory. That's when Windows Explorer comes in handy to verify it. And if it is and Excel still can't open it, there may be something funny with the name. Worth a shot.

    Try the following:

Click Tools---> Options---> General and then uncheck "Ignore other Applications." Then close Excel and try again.

If this doesn't work try to unregister and then re-register Excel

Close Excel and then click on the Windows START button and type

excel.exe /unregserver then click OK (there is a space before the forwardslash / )

Follow the same process to re-register, only this time type the following instead.

    excel.exe /regserver (there is a space before the forwardslash / )

You may also need to type the full path to excel.exe in the two statements above.

    Thanks Rollin,
Unchecking the ignore other application button, did it. I don't how or why things got messed up,but I greatly appreciate the help.
