i'v downloaded hjt but can't get it to work.
i had turned of mcafee virus and fire wall because
i have read on an earlier link that hjt might be regaurded as
a virus or worm or some such.
an "unexpected error " comes up when i click on the icon.
i am running windows me, along with aol, and the above mentioned
mcafee.from what i've read in the links, going back over a year
it appears, there couldn't be a worse combination !

Hello Stella,

Do it this way.

Uninstall the HJT you have already and

downloaded the zip file from here

Right click on the zip file and select 'Extract All' from the menu. Save the extracted folder to your C:\Program Files. Open this folder and send a shortcut to your Desktop of the HijackThis.exe.

Click on the .exe tool and click on the 'Scan' button

Upon completion of the scan click on 'Save Log' and save it to your Desktop.

Highlight and Copy the contents of the log to whichever forum you wish to share your problem. Perhaps here? If so mark this thread as 'Solved" (using the drop-down menu of Thread Tools above). Create a new thread telling of the problem(s) you are having and paste the HJT log into your first post.

If you still experience difficulty post back here with more details of what happens when you click on the HJT.exe.

Ben.
