Hi. I'm trying to set up to be able to use VNC to help my mom remotely. I can't get it to work. Here's the story:

With both computers in the same house, I can connect over the internal network without a problem. In addition, I can use her WAN IP to connect to her as well, as long as I am on the same network. However, once I'm on a different network, I get a connection time out message when I try to connect. In our normal environment, both of us are behind routers and firewalls. I've tried disabling both firewalls (Norton and Win XP) and this doesn't make a difference. I have configured port forwarding on both routers to direct port 5900 to the computers local IP. Is there a time out setting that I can change, or have I missed something else that would allow me to connect when I'm not on the same network?

    Thanks!
    Erin

Have you tested using http://www.gotomyvnc.com/? There's a facility on there that will test if your ports are configured correctly.
