Once you have installed XP you need to load the chipset drivers FIRST, then graphics, sound, nic and any other drivers you need

You don't mention if you have installed the chipset drivers

i don't have any experience with hp but have several dell laptops and pc's both wired and wireless.

on my dell stuff, there are more than one driver listed in almost all categories, some listed as optional, some recommended.
dell uses a service tag, unique to that machine, rather than model number.

It would help if you could be specific as to what you're trying to do and what is the exact text of the error message you're seeing.
