hi, i can't seem to install sp2 on my computer, and after the wizard is inspecting my system configurations and whatnot, an error window pops up: access is denied.

i did a complete cleanup of the system before i installed sp2, including a safe mode+ad aware, spybot, norton antivirus, and hijack this. i even did an online panda antivirus scan.

actually i opened up the svcpack.log and here is a full description of the error:

1186.906: DoInstallation:DoRegistryUpdates failed
1201.156: UnRegisterSpuninstForRecovery, failed to delete SpRecoverCmdLine value, error 0x2
1201.156: DoInstallation: Failed to unregistering spuninst.exe for recovery.
1201.218: Access is denied.
153791.859: Message displayed to the user: Access is denied.
153791.968: User Input: OK
153792.750: Service Pack 2 installation did not complete.

Windows XP has been partially updated and may not work properly.
153804.375: Message displayed to the user: Service Pack 2 installation did not complete.

can anyone diagnose what's preventing the installation?

No offence intended but is this a legally installed and activated copy of XP that you are using ?
