I have a HP compaq 6910p Laptop last month the disk crashed, so i purchase a new 200 GB hard disk.
I also purchase a copy of windows xp pro. when I start the computer with the new disk it gets to the point
where I have to type F8 after pressing F8, this is what It says " windows did not find a hard drive in your system.
I do remember years ago when compaq systems had a small boot section on the hard drive. Do I need to flash the bios'

when u install windows xp put the disk in reboot the computer and press i think F11 or F 12 to get to the boot menu. u should see choices such as cd drive etc. have it set to boot from the cd drive then u should see the message press any key to boot from the cd hit enter and go from there.im assuming the computer originally came with xp pro?if not if it came with vista or windows 7 u will have to go into the bios and change it from ACHI to ATA SATA or IDE compatible for windows xp to run correctly. also make sure there is xp drivers for your computer if not it will be very hard to find them.hope this helps u.
