I have a Compaq NC 6000 Laptop and am running Windows 2000 professional. Without warning my internal CD/DVD drive stopped working. I checked the CD/DVD using the Device Manager and found the black exclamation point in the yellow circle indicating that "windows cannot load the driver". I went through the troubleshoot steps a couple of times to update the driver including re-starts. No luck. When I checked "driver details" I noticed three drivers. I'm thinking I should delete one or two but I don't know which one.

Any ideas, Thanks

Have you tried uninstalling the drive in Device Manager and the rebooting and let Windows reinstall it?

This script should fix 2K or XP missing CD/DVD drives.

Create a text file with the following stuff in it exactly as below and name it FIXCD.REG

Double click on the file and say yes to the merge into registry question.

----------------------- cut after this line, contents of FIXCD.REG -----------------------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"UpperFilters"=-
"LowerFilters"=-

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdr4_2K]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdralw2k]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdudf]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UdfReadr]
