Hi,

There's something wrong with my laptop. A couple days ago when I switched on my laptop, all of sudden it showed an error message saying that windows cannot load the locally stored profile and windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. And when I tried to log on the net, I couldn't connect to the internet. In fact, the internet is connected. But for some reason, no matter what websites I went to, it all showed that the page cannot be displayed. Then, I tried to build up a new connection by using new connection wizard but i failed. According the error message, it said that the new connectoin wizard was unable to open the following location on my machine: C: \Program Files\ Online Service.

Anyone knows how to solve the problems? Pleas help me out here. Thank you very much in advance.

Hiya and welcome

Are you still having this problem? If so, are you logging into Windows on a Guest account or as an Administrator? Also, apart from the internet, are any other things not working, or missing, as in software?

Also, which version of Windows are you running? Even though the internet is 'alive', the reason for the Page cannot be displayed screen, is that the account you're logged on with isn't configured properly for the internet.

Do you just connect with Internet Explorer, or do you use AOL, etc?

Hi Eddie,

Thanks for ur reply. Yes, I'm still having this problem. I think I'm logging into windows as an administrator. And as far as I'm concerned, nothing is really missing apart from the internet. The windows I'm using for my laptop is windows xp pro. Basicaly, I just access the internet via internet explorer.

Regards

Megan

Well, this is for the original error in question:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;812339

You may want to see if doing what it says in the above link about creating a new account will work.

Also, to see what you're logging in as, in the User Accounts, it will show the list of accounts. There will be an Admin one in there, and a few more hopefully. You may be logging in as your name, with Administrator powers, but not as the actual Admin, if you see what I mean.
