After I let Norton remove a backdoor virus from my computer, I can't open ANY applications. I suspect the virus replaced the origanal file in my registry, but I can't even access that. Please Help

Hi and welcome. Glad to see you can now post ;) Did you figure out what the problem was?

What operating system are you running? Can the computer get online to download anything?

I am using win 98 SE. I can get online, however anything I download is considered an application. I am getting an error message which states " can't find hvqvqnigl.exe needed to open files of type application" I suspect that file was the virus.

Sounds like it....can you download hijack this.....it's a zip file, so perhaps that will run for you, scan your system and post the scan log.

Email from poster (no your post didn't go thru ;) )

    Hi Candy,
I replied to your last post, but I'm not sure it went. I could download hijack, but can't open it. I'm getting the same error that the application can't be launched.
    Thank You,

Let's see who I can grab. There has got to be a way around this.
