My daughter is using a computer with Windows 98 and she cannot view .avi files but CAN view .wmv files. I was wondering if there is some way for her to be able to either view the .avi files or convert the .avi to .wmv files.

I would say the codecs are the issue. I would also update windows media player.

Thanks. Going to get her to give it a try. I'm assuming that she goes to that page and downloads the "mega" pack?

Ok, she can see the .avi files but she says they are very very tiny and when she tries to view them on a full screen, they get too pixelated to see properly. She says this occurs with every avi file. I can view them fine on my xp machine.

She downloaded the standard version of codecs from the website above.

She's viewing with windows media player and has updated it.

    Any suggestions?

Still having trouble. The avi files worked until my daughter shut down her computer for the night. When she rebooted the next day and tried to view another avi file, the computer froze up and she got the blue screen. This happens every time she tries to view ANY file now. She's tried Media Player, Winamp, Classic MediaPlayer and they all do the same.

She uninstalled the codecs that she had just installed to see if it would help and reinstalled media player but it is still doing the same thing.

Obviously she is frustrated and I don't know what to do to help her.
