In Windows XP Pro, if I double click on the Folder Options ikon in the Control Panel I get an "Open With" window asking me to choose the program I want to use to open the file--in other words, I don't get the Folder Options window. The other applications in the Control Panel all seem to work ok. Also, I am able to access Folder Options ok in the Tools menu in Windows explorer. Can you tell me how to fix this problem?

I can get to the Folder Options window by Start->Run->"Control Folders". So nothing is blocking access to Folder Options. Rather, it is as if the Folder Options icon in the Control Panel is no longer connected to Folder Options.

    wghalvorsen, Try this:

Start>Run then type or copy & paste:

    regsvr32 /i shell32

    Click OK.

    Restart your computer

Note that the spacing is important.

Tufenuf, that was a good idea. Unfortunately it did not solve the problem. I ran regsvr32 /i shell32, got a message that the operation was successful, and rebooted. But I still get the bad response when I double click on Folder Options.

    Thanks for your help.

Yes, Open is top option, then Run as..., and last Create Shortcut.

Open does not work--just get the "Open With" window. Here is the query result:
