I hope that I am in the right place for help.

When I open an E-Mail shown as power point viewer slide show PPS, I get this fault msg.
"File does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the SET ASSOCIATION CONTROL PANEL" I go to "Control Panel", "Default Programs" "Associate a file type or protocol with a program."
I scroll down to PPS,Microsoft power point slide show, and the default is shown as Microsoft office power point viewer.

What the devil do I have to do to open a file like this?
Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

Try right clicking on it, then open with, and browse for power point viewer.
