can't play mp3 on windows media player 9.0

    i don't know why but i can't play mp3 or open windows media player 9.0
    i get the error an internal application error has occured...
    then when i try to go into windows update it says done and no image in webpage...
    i know i don't have a virus...
    can anybody else get into windows update site??

    i tried doing that, after it installed it and i clicked finish that same error popped up...
    i even tried to go into system restore it brings up page but nothing there its all yellow which is the color i choosed for background in folders...

    actually i downloaded from microsoft site...
    i can go on microsoft site i just can't go on too the update site where we go to download the critical files...
