    Googled this several times, tried all the "solutions" I could find. I am still unable to play .rmvb videos on my computer running Ubuntu Linux 7.10

    What solutions did you find and try?

    The strategy is to try and find other solutions which are not in the set of solutions you tried and did not work, so they can then be discarded.

    We need to know what solutions are different from what you tried to advise.

    Hi namenotfound,

    Assuming you followed all of the instructions to a T, did you bother to read the comments to see the other recommendation to install libstdc++5 (probably via Synaptic Package Manager)?

    If not, go back and try that to see if it helps.

    On another note, since I have never played a .rmvb file (to my knowledge), where can I pick up a small test .rmvb file (to make sure I can play them on my Gutsy Gibbon (7.10) system?

    In /usr/lib, issue the command: $ ls -lt libstdc*
    I have the results to that command as:
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2008-04-04 03:41 libstdc++.so.5 -> libstdc++.so.5.0.7
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2007-10-15 19:17 libstdc++.so.6 -> libstdc++.so.6.0.9
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 970680 2007-09-28 20:41 libstdc++.so.6.0.9
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 737192 2007-07-29 16:42 libstdc++.so.5.0.7

    What do you get?
