    Hi,

My OE 6 (Windows XP home) has been freezing on me when I try to write a reply. When I try to type a reply nothing comes up and the hourglass just goes. I have to close the message and then "End Program -- Program not responding" comes up. The error signature and the error report data reads --

    szAppName : msimn.exe szAppVer : 6.0.2800.1123
    szModName : hungapp szMo

    C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERC3.tmp.dir00\msimn.exe.mdmp
    C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERC3.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txtdVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000

Thanks for any help you can offer!! This is really frustrating.

I've still got this not responding thing going on when I try to forward or reply -even after I've gone through Microsoft reinstall procedure twice.

I'm stumped, and would love some help. Thanks!

Any issues trying to just create an entire new message at all ??

If you do, perhaps there is an issue with your outbox
Locate your outbox.dbx file, ( it is hidden, so search in hidden/system files ) and delete it.
re-open OE to create a new outbox and see if this helps.

Will check other sources for possible causes.........

    Hi Swiper,

No problem at all with new messages -- just with replying/forwarding.

Maybe this is related somehow to your other problem about blank emails. I can't find an absolute reason for those but it could be either a MS update or a virus. Forgive me if you have already done some of these, it is hard to remember what you went through. Did you post a Hijack This Log? In any case, this is everything and anything that I could think of.

    1) Run system restore to a date before this occurred, if possible.

    2) Have you updated your anti-virus and run it? Do you use McAfee? There have been some problems with one of their files: McVSEscn.exe. It has to be stopped from running. There might be information on their web site. You could go to a free online site such as PC Pitstop.

    http://www.pcpitstop.com/antivirus/av.asp#display

    3) One at a time, temporarily disable: Pop-Up blockers, Firewall and Anti-virus. See if any of those are at fault. It would be best to close IE/OE and reopen them each time to check these.

    4) Have you checked for spyware? Spybot and/or Ad Aware.

    5) Cool Web Malware. Download and use: CWShredder. It can be downloaded here, the download link is near the bottom of the page.

    http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html

    6) Did you delete Outbox.dbx as suggested by Swiper? If that didn't work, I would suggest even more, won't hurt, OE will recreate them.

    A) take any emails you want to keep out of inbox/outbox/sent items/deleted items/drafts folders.
    B) be sure OE is closed
    C) These are the DBX files to delete. They are hidden files on XP, you will have to locate them.
    INBOX.dbx
    OUTBOX.dbx
    SENT ITEMS.dbx
    DELETED ITEMS.dbx
    DRAFTS.dbx
    POP3UIDL.dbx

    7) Do you have any "toolbars" installed....like Hotbar, Yahoo Companion?
Try uninstalling them. Again, shut down IE and OE and reopen after disabled.

    8) Be sure Temporary Internet Files (cache) are deleted, including off line content.

    9) Make sure regsvr32 inetcomm.dll is still in effect. Wouldn't hurt to make sure OE filetypes are registered as well. Go to Run and type: msimn /reg

    10) In OE-->Tools-->Options-->Read Tab-->Font Button: Try setting to Western European (ISO)

sekirt -- thanks so much for your help! (I'm just getting around to reading it).

THis problem is still going on sporadically although its happening far more frequently than not happening, and I've notice on a rare occasion that it won't let me write a new email (as you had asked). What's the key to finding those hidden files? Thanks again and I'm going to work on the items you've listed.

Maybe this will help. Open Outlook Express.
Go to Tools -->Options-->Maintainence-->Store Folder and check the path.
    Go to that path and you should see all your Inbox.dbx, Outbox.dbx etc;

Was it possible to go back to a restore point before the problem started?

I am not the one to read your Hijack This log....but I do see you have Yahoo Companion. Try uninstalling that.

Just for the sake of accuracy, it was Swiper that asked about problems with new emails.

I don't know anything about restoring. Do you know of a site with the directions or is it just a couple of keystrokes?

    Thanks again!
